Phone it In

Here’s something I just don’t get.

The Strokes.

The lead vocal track sounds as if it’s been recorded through a telephone. It’s like they REALLY phoned it in!

But somehow, *somehow* it’s good. And not just kind of good. It’s real good.

It’s like having all the best art supplies in the world and putting out nothing but crap. But give these guys a couple of crayons and they’ve got a damned Rembrandt.

“Studio B”

“Strokes are on line 2.”

“Stand by for click track, guys.”

heh.

Chimpanzee

Ahhh now THIS is a good deal here. The statesmanship is nearly palpable.

NEW YORK (CNN) — As President Bush and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attend the United Nations General Assembly meeting on Tuesday, a top U.N. official said the two men likely will do their best to steer clear of each other.

Yeah guys, let’s not talk about the issues face-to-face when we have the (rare) opportunity to do so. Let’s keep up with the “bigger dick” foreign policy that has gotten us so far.

Chimps.

I have the solution. It’s not my own, however.

The list of items we cannot carry on board a commercial aircraft is becoming
so long that they should switch it to the things we can carry on. Of
course, the lines are longer than ever at the TSA stand that the decrease in
the amount of baggage may actually be a good thing. Less baggage, less to scan,
faster lines.

I’m sure that smells too much like common sense for TSA, so I’ll skip the separate
"nothing to check line" argument.

Following the previous line of logic, my dad had an idea that everyone should
be required to wear a hospital gown on board. This would go a
long way to eliminating the lines at the "scanner" machine - WTF will
you have that could possibly set the scanner off? You’re wearing little
paper slippers and a cotton gown.

The line moves much
faster.

And - **and** nobody is bitching because they’re too busy laughing and trying
to keep their ass out of public view.

This gives the average public person much more leverage in the event of a hijacking.
Let’s face it folks, we have a lot of ugly people in this country (present party
included) - would you risk a fight with someone at 30,000 feet with the risk
of a handfull of ass?

I sure wouldn’t.

Hell, even if it’s a suicide mission, these people have standards - perhaps
not morals, but standards nonetheless. If they flinch or hesitate for just a
second, we can have a veritable orgy of ugly, exposed asses right on their face.

Phat Wallet

It’s always interesting to me the things I find when I clear out my wallet.
Well, this time it is with feelings tinged with melancholy that I do so yet
again. My wallet is too fat with worthless crap (no money in there either).
In the immortal words of Gael* - "My ass just can’t take any more."

Too bad Spicy Meat & Rice, TBTBE®, and The ‘Trench
didn’t have a club card, ‘cuz I’d surely have one and no doubt toil over its
exclusion from my wallet. So I bit thee a fond farewell, (i) my paradise fitness
card that was neither to me, (ii) my 5 Star Diver’s club card that I never used
and (iii) my Student ID that I never needed.

(flings into trash can)

This song is meant to keep ya
From doing what your supposed to
Like waking up too early
Maybe we can sleep in
Ill make you banana pancakes
Pretend like its the weekend now

I miss ya, cutie.

Mainland BLUEs

Well….

Here’s the update. I’m back in the USA and runnin’ scared every day….until
today (for a little while). It’s been a wild ride - and I’ve been so busy that
sleep sometimes is the "option" that gets left out.

I did manage to get a TN driver license (time in line = 2.5 hrs). Also got a
new car, got it registered (time in line = 2 hours), and am packing up a bit
for the trek to VA to find an apartment and an office location for the company
I am working for.

Here are some shots of the new car - her name is Betty:

Further bulletins as events warrant - back to work!

From the Russian Fleet to Beer and Sandy Feet

From time to time, we head over for the long 50 yard walk down to Jimmy Dee’s
Beach Bar
for the friday nite show. Usually there’s a tremendous blaze of
burning shipping pallettes, but alas, it has been dry and they didn’t do that.
We did get a good show from the lovely Chammoritas and Chief Mattuas, though.
I’ve never brought the camera over there, but I did this time, with the 50mm 1.4
lens - it did a fantastic job!

Always good to have "little kids with fire sticks"…

It was also Summer and Jesse’s birthday, so Gael arranged for them to be humiliated,
and then served birthday cake:

Aaahhh…it was a very Chamorro brithday and a memorable night for all.

The Russians are……here?

Yes that’s right. The Russian Navy had its Pacific Fleet here in Guam this week.
They were giving tours of one of the ships and I just could not resist! They were
very hospitable and extremely nice guys. We got a short tour of the exterior
of the ship and then got to talk a bit with the navigator of their helo (pictured
below).

I have to say their English was extremely good. It’s always surprising to find
the number of people who speak our language better than we speak theirs. I got
to use only a little bit of my awful Russian skills: "Hello", "Excuse
me", "Thanks", and "Goodbye".

Hey, I’m tryin’ here.

Here’s some pics:
